I’m taking a chance.
I know my parents won’t ever EVER approve this, but…I want to sing.
I love to sing. It’s a hobby of mine. Ever since I was a kid.
The only thing that ever stops me is that I’m unbearably shy at crowds.
I’m unbearably shy to begin with, with single strangers and all, but a whole load of people? All eyes on me? It’s not something my nerves can handle too well.
But I love to sing. I have very few friends who have heard me sing because I am horribly self conscious about my voice. They say it’s nice and I should consider being professional, but I never entertained that thought because it just wasn’t realistic enough and I was always expected to eventually go to med school.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I hate my subjects. I like science, I really do.
But I love music. When I was in junior high, that’s when I was in choir. I really appreciated my teacher—Mr. Langham—who taught us to sight sing. Before that, I never knew how to even read musical notes, I just copied what I heard.
And so I’ve taken a chance and I’m going to take voice lessons.
I know I have a long way to go, but this is something that’s calling to me. I like to sing to my sisters. I like to sing to my close friends. It makes them happy and that, in turn, also makes me happy.
I will try my best to get over my fears of being on stage. Once I have progressed, I promise to show you all.
Of course I’m still going to continue my studies.
But I hope you guys will support me on this.
I’m not like the others who have been working ever since they were 4 for this, but I’m just as passionate as them about singing, and I’m willing to work hard.
My parents don’t think anything of it for now. They think it’s just a hobby.
But, I’m also planning to take either piano or guitar lessons next year because in my covers, I’ve always asked a friend to play for me because I can’t play an instrument. And as a side note, I know most (if not all) of you don’t know, but I’ve started practicing how to beatbox last month and I continue to practice every day.
I’m also asthmatic but it doesn’t hinder me much because I use my inhalers.
I have a lot to work on—not just my voice but other talents and certain things to work at, but it doesn’t deter me. This is something I really want to do.
When I was a kid, I never imagined that I’d be like this. I always thought I would take the usual route as planned but I guess things change.
